If your company has already filed its 2024 annual tax return, it’s time to update your Employer Registration Certificate (CIE) before the National Immigration Institute (INM), even if the CIE is still valid based on its original issuance date.
This procedure is essential for legal entities to continue carrying out immigration procedures, such as the intern of foreign personnel, employer change notifications, renewals, or immigration regularizations.
What is the Employer Registration Certificate?
It is the official document issued by the INM that authorizes individuals or legal entities to hire foreign personnel. It is valid for one year and must be updated every time the annual tax return is filed, and when there are changes to the tax domicile, corporate purpose, or legal representation.
Why is it necessary to update it?
According to Article 166 of the Regulations of the Migration Law, individuals and legal entities employing foreign workers must keep their CIE updated, submitting current legal and tax information. This includes the annual update following the filing of the tax return before the SAT (Mexican Tax Authority).
